Alpine Eagle has been a standout for McEvoy through his entire racing career so far, but undoubtedly stamped himself as a serious racing contender through the 2015 edition of the Autumn Carnival; highlighted by a win in the Group 2 Autumn Classic (1800m) and a close second to Wandjina in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m).

Having returned in spring for two runs before a cracked pedal bone forced a return to the paddock, McEvoy told AAP the entire has completely recovered from all ailments and is primed for a strong run in the 2016 RA Lee Stakes on Saturday.

“We’ve had no issues at all with it,” McEvoy said.

“He’s got confidence in his action. He’s done everything really well.

“He’s been a bit bored because he’s been in a long time. He came across to Melbourne and won a trial at Werribee. Then I took him back to Adelaide and he won a trial.

“He’s ready for a race. He needs to go to the races.”

McEvoy revealed the High Chaparral entire’s run in the RA Lee Stakes will be a one-off, with a view towards major black type races through the forthcoming Melbourne Spring Carnival.

“He’ll just have this race and then I’ll sweeten him up for a few weeks and we’ll target the spring,” McEvoy said.

“He’s a colt and he’s one of those horses that doesn’t enjoy spelling. He loves it for a couple of weeks and then he stands in the corner and he doesn’t want to be there.

“He’ll be very ring rusty, but I hope he can step up and run well for us.”

Alpine Eagle appeared on course for a typically strong spring campaign when returning in August for second in the Listed Penny Edition Stakes (1400m), and progressed to a credible sixth in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) in his most recent start.

The 2016 RA Lee Stakes final field and barrier draw, also set to feature Melbourne Cup hero Prince Of Penzance, is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
